Today was our son’s 4K graduation. It was a bitter sweet day. I was excited that school was over but also wondering where the time has gone. He has grown up so much in the past year with lots of thanks to his teachers. I wanted to give his teacher a gift that she could use and one that would remind her of our son for years to come. I found a plain simple clock at Walmart for $3.97 and knew that I could make it into a cool teacher’s gift using my Cricut. I think it turned out pretty cute and hopefully she does too.
Here is the Pinterest Pin if you would like to repin it! Teacher Appreciation Clock
Supplies:
Clock (just a plain simple one from Walmart or Target or wherever)
Cardstock— I used white, yellow, red, blue and green
Adhesive— I used tape runners but you could use whatever adhesive you prefer.
Vinyl– I used black vinyl for the letters and numbers
Transfer tape— to transfer the letters and numbers to the apples
Cricut– if you don’t have a Cricut, you can always use different stickers. I used the Plantin Schoolbook Cartridge for everything.
Screwdriver– to take the clock apart and put it back together
Instructions:
1. Take the clock apart. The one that I purchased had small screws in the back. I have seen others where the clear plastic just snaps out.
2. Using the clock face that came with the clock as a template, cut a new face out of the white cardstock. Make sure to poke the whole in the center for the hands and clock mechanism and do not allow the excess cardstock to remain because the clock hands will not go around if this is not removed.
3. Using my cricut and the Plantin Schoolbook Cartridge, I cut 12 little apples (4 yellow, 4 blue, and 4 green) .6 of an inch high (.56 inch wide) out of the colored cardstock. I also cut a larger apple out of the red cardstock at 3.5 inches high (3.29 inches wide).
4. I then cut my son’s teacher’s name out of black vinyl at .4 inch high and the numbers at .45 inch high. (Remember to change the settings on the Cricut when you cut vinyl. I seem to get it to work best when I have it set at 2 pressure, 2 speed, and 2 blade depth).
5. Weed the vinyl and place it on the correct apple.
6. Using your chosen adhesive, and carefully lining up the apples, adhere them to the white cardstock. I used the old clock face as a guide. Place the white cardstock circle on the clock base. There was some remnants of adhesive on the base of the clock so I didn’t need to add anymore to adhere the white cardstock to the base. If it doesn’t stick well for you, you will want to put some more adhesive on it.
7. Put the hands back on and put the clock back together and you will have a gift that a teacher will treasure for a long time.
I have noticed that the clock is just slightly tilted in this picture. It wasn’t enough to notice it when I was taking the picture but now that I have put the picture on, it makes the name look like it is not in a straight line. I have to admit, I am not a good photographer.
