Shaped Easter Chocolates Using Cookie Cutters

Easter Chocolates

We like to make our own Easter goodies and this year we decided to try molding chocolate using cookie cutters because we didn’t have any Easter candy molds.  I think if I was to change anything, I would have not had so many of the white candy coated chocolates added to the egg and I would have used small marshmallows for the bunny’s teeth (I didn’t have any marshmallows on hand).

Chocolate Easter gifts ingredients

Supplies needed:

Hershey’s King Size Chocolate Bar (or other plain chocolate)
Hershey’s Butterscotch Chips (optional)
Hershey’s Hershey-ets Candy Coated Milk Chocolate (optional)
Cake Mate Writing Icing (optional)
Cookie Cutters — egg shape and bunny shape
Wax Paper

Instructions:

Place the candy bar broken up into a plastic microwave safe container.  Using the defrost setting on the microwave, heat the chocolate for 30 seconds, then stir it and put it in for another 15 seconds until it is fully melted. Please note heating times may vary depending on the power of your microwave.  Place a sheet of wax paper on a cutting board (or anything else flat like a plate).  Put your choice of cookie cutter on the wax paper and while holding the cutter, pour some of the chocolate into it.  Carefully, move the cutting board (or plate) and place it into the freezer. This helps harden the chocolate faster.

Once the chocolate has hardened, take it out of the freezer (about 1o minutes) and carefully remove the cookie cutter.I flipped the chocolate over to ensure the side that would be decorated was flat.  If there is any excess chocolate around the edges, you can trim this with a toothpick. Then you can decorate how you wish. Using a little melted chocolate as adhesive, we placed some Hershey’s Hershey-ets Candy Coated Milk Chocolate in a pattern on the egg shaped chocolate and also used these for eyes on the bunny.  We used the Cake Mate Writing Icing to make the blue eyes and also the spots on the egg.  I must warn you. This product is not really meant to be used on chocolate so it is kind of tricky. Once we added it, I placed it straight into the freezer again to help it dry (first time it ran all over).  For the bunny nose, we used one of the Butterscotch chips.  With some of the red Cake Mate Writing Icing we colored the bunny ears and made a little mouth. We did wipe the majority of this off so it would be more subtle.  If you prefer, you can just mold the chocolate and leave it plain.

Enjoy!
