Kids' Chores Dice: fun and easy craft to make chores fun

Kids Chore Dice

You may have seen my post about the couples’ choice set of dice.  If not, you can see that here— Couples’ Choice Dice

When I told my hubby my idea for the couples’ choice dice, he told me that he thought they would also be great to make into a game to get kids interested in helping with chores.  He came up with the idea to have a “Free” chance on each dice so the kids would think that it was awesome that they had a chance to do no chores at all.  After you make your dice, have the kids roll each one.  Whatever they land on will be the two chores for the day or they might be lucky and get one or two free ones 🙂  You do not need a Cricut machine to do this. I used mine but you can use paint or permanent markers instead.

Here is what we did to make these Kids’ Chores Dice:

Materials needed:

2 wooden blocks (I used 1 1/4 inch blocks which were pre-cut in packs of eight at my local craft store.  They were priced at $2.99 but there is always a coupon in my local paper).  You could cut and sand your own.

Paint (I used a green acrylic)

Paintbrush

Cricut and vinyl and transfer tape or another color of paint or permanent marker (I used my Cricut and cut the words out of vinyl)

Instructions:

I probably don’t really have to explain what I did. It was very simple. First I painted the two blocks in my choice of color which was green. This is my 5 year old’s favorite color so I thought it would make him more interested.  Then out of the vinyl, I cut the following words (1/4 inch).  You can choose whatever chores you would like.  My son is only 5 so I needed to keep things a little simpler.

Help with Laundry

Set Table

Pick up Toys

Feed Pets

Help with Meal

Dust

After the words were cut, I “weeded” the excess vinyl and transferred the cut-outs to the blocks with transfer tape. I put a “FREE” word on each block and then just split the other ten between both blocks.

If you do not have a Cricut machine or other die-cutter, you could use permanent marker or another color of paint. I free handed one that is at the bottom of my Couples’ Choice Dice Post.
